RC priest guilty of ganja possession
A Roman Catholic priest, who was arrested on Wednesday night and charged with possession of marijuana, was fined $1,000 or serve three months in prison when he appeared in court yesterday.
Reports revealed that around 9.30 pm, PC Yearwood, along with two others, were on patrol at Pasea Street, St Augustine, when they saw a Nissan car parked on the roadway. Officers became suspicious and carried out a check. They searched the driver of the car who was allegedly found with a hand-rolled marijuana cigarette weighing 1.5 grammes. He was charged by PC Yearwood. When the priest appeared before Tunapuna Magistrate Maria Jasmath at the Tunapuna Second Court yesterday, he pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 or spend three months in prison.
