Chaguanas Chamber wants curfew

The Greater Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce has called on Government and the Ministry of National Security to outline what is being done to reduce the high rate of crime that is presently plaguing the country.

It suggested the implementation of a national curfew to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s citizens. It also called for the installation of tracking equipment in police stations which officers will be monitored around the clock. “The Chamber is very aware of the implications of many of these suggestions like loss of revenue, especially to our entertainment industry, the negative international relations image and the restriction of freedom of movement of our society,” it said in a release. The Chamber further expressed its belief that the time had come to exercise greater discipline and compromise our lifestyles towards achieving a safer TT. It said, “Our citizens and businessmen are dying while others are rapidly losing faith in the system and, by extension, our national leaders.” “Our 2020 vision seems even further away when one considers that the safety, protection and security of 1.5 million people cannot be well harnessed,” it further noted.
