‘Killed because he got lover pregnant’

BELMONT RESIDENT Deryck Sadees was killed for getting his lover pregnant, according to residents of the area who attended Sadees’ funeral at Nella’s Funeral Chapel, Duke Street, Port-of-Spain yesterday.

Following the funeral service, which was conducted by Dr Dean O Hanley Alexis, one concerned resident claimed that everyone knew who the killer was and alleged that the police were not doing anything about the matter. The alleged killer made an appearance at the slain man’s funeral, however, he did not stay for very long. This action prompted some residents to threaten to take action into their own hands. Reports indicate that Sadees, 25, a well-known mechanic in the Belmont area and a “ladies man,”  was fatally shot while standing on some steps at Dennis Street, off St Francois Valley Road around 8.20 pm on Monday night.

Initial reports claimed that Sadees was killed over an incident in which a man’s finger was shot off. However, at the funeral yesterday, residents claimed that the young man was killed by a jealous man after he (Sadees) allegedly got the man’s “woman” pregnant. At the funeral service, recently elected Local Government Councillor for Belmont North and West, Bert Allette, made a call for young people to “put down their guns and find better solutions to deal with their conflicts.” Also addressing the congregation was Sadees’ former Common Entrance teacher Martin Bernard, who described him as a young man who lived an exemplary life. He said that Sadees was decent, ambitious, respectful and service oriented and was always willing to assist anyone who asked for his assistance.
