Clarity of thought in Minshall’s critique
THE EDITOR: We are truly a slave society when some of its supposedly literate citizens are unable to deal with constructive views, opposed to their own. Such a person is “Ms Thompson.”
The knee jerk reaction is — I do not agree with the message therefore I stone the messenger. What are the implications for our society, currently besieged by murderous feral youths who use similar language to justify killing each other. In the ghetto, opposing views are articulated thus; — ‘I doh like whey de bredgrin say bout meh. Is a disrespeck so ah had was to put he on ice.” Your language is no different. I recall Terry Joseph and Raymond Ramcharitar panned the Carnival Messiah production long before Minshall’s article appeared. Not a mouse roared nor a squeak raised in response to their criticisms. It begs the question — Why? Minshall’s critique reveals a clarity of thought within the prose that belies malicious intent. This is in direct contrast to “Thompson’s” cheap shots overlaid with proclamations of past adulation, presumably designed to legitimise her vituperative cant. Suffice it say, Minshall is the only TT national to bring home a prestigious Emmy Award for theatrical excellence.
