Night of the beauties
THE EDITOR: Like so many others, Friday night found me coasting on a Smirnoff Ice and just “chillin” with a friend at a Port-of-Spain pub. Around midnight, outbursts of hoots, whistles and sporadic applause recessed the usual drivel, heralding tidings of joy for patrons. Within seconds 12 uniformed ladies came into view. And what a view it was. Yes indeed, the vivacious delegates for Miss TT Universe sashayed over, complete with entourage and warm personas that temporarily put all talk of crime, economy and politics on the back burner. The ambience had so improved that if they had worn red in lieu of blue and black, I would have sworn it was Christmas.
The girls were at ease, striking up light conversations and moving around with infectious smiles. They distributed invitations for their upcoming show dubbed, “Incite,” carded for September 28 2003 at the Anchorage. So they were “bar hopping” to promote the show. Expectedly, some guys engaged the striking lasses longer than necessary — wallowing in their presence and pondering outlines of fine forms in low-rise jeans. “Yes, I’ll definitely be there,” “Ah coming for sure,” See yuh there!” were some zealous responses given to the ladies regarding Incite. I also had the pleasure of conversing with several of our rainbow beauties whose articulation, apart from physical attributes, was remarkable. They told me that Incite would be their first official public appearance as delegates and that the evening promises to be memorable, since competing for various titles is on the agenda. Those titles will be Miss Physique, Miss Photogenic, Miss People’s Choice and Miss Perfect Smile. Soon the extraordinary visit climaxed as they succumbed to pulsating music, executing subtle “wines” of elegance that mesmerised all and sundry. Older males immediately sported hungry stares made evident by trembling lips and dribble — aspects likened to a craving for cuisine too rich for the heart. Unfortunately, for those red-blooded old timers, their fixations were returned not by the objects of their attention but by vengeful glares from jealous spouses.
Just beyond the dancing belles I was introduced to Marcia La Borde, local pageant coordinator. We chatted briefly and I came away with impression that there was merit to recent reports of a contractual issue between reigning Miss TT, Faye Alibocus and the Pageant Company. Notwithstanding, I hope that this tiff is rectified in the interest of the continuance in selecting, annually, the most suited ambassadress to do us proud at Miss Universe competitions. The queen hopefuls spent a happy 15 minutes at the pub before graciously taking their leave. Waving hands over straining eyes and broad smiles followed their every stride through the doors. Alas, parting was such sweet sorrow.
