Sales clerk with worries

THE EDITOR: I would like to draw your attention to the attitude of sales clerks throughout the stores in Trinidad and Tobago that one faces every day in our day to day shopping. It has become very overbearing and I believe that it is time we put a stop to these actions. When we enter a store, we expect to be greeted with a smile, instead we see the faces of someone who appears to be suffering with a world of worries. Having entered a store for the first time, you stand there helpless, unfortunately we remain that way. One has to go and draw the attention of one of the clerks who not only does not respond willingly, but does not even know what that store contains. The first phrase they say is “I think so”. A store attendant should know the store from all corners.

After “I think so,” they follow you all around the store. This is good except they are not helping you, but acting as though you are stealing. How uncomfortable? What is the next step? Speaking from the mind of a frequent shopper, I leave the store. Another unfortunate loss of sales. Employers, train your employees about good customer service. This not only makes a good employee but increases your sales on a daily basis.
