Who upholds media law?
THE EDITOR: Obscene language remains illegal in Trinidad and Tobago. Yet during Saturday night’s movie (September 27) at 10.20 pm on TV 6, obscene language was being used. Who is to uphold the law against obscene language by the media?
Usually the media responds that the viewer is free to switch off the TV set. But is the programme manager not responsible for ensuring that the laws are not broken when shows are offered? We are quick to condemn youthful law breakers when irresponsible media presentations develop lawlessness among viewers. I call on those responsible for monitoring the media to take action now.
