London: Smooth roads for Tobago
TOBAGO motorists can expect to be driving on much smoother roads from later this month. THA Chief Secretary, Orville London, said the Executive Council on Thursday approved the sum of $5 million for the Division of Infrastructure to source critical equipment that will enable the division to respond more quickly and effectively to infrastructural needs on the island.
He said while the THA has no problems with encouraging private businesses, it was attempting to curb its dependence on private contractors, since it was constrained when it wished to conduct “urgent and expeditious activities.” According to London, the Division had already ordered a “pothole repair machine” which will conduct neater repairs five times faster than is done now and will eventually cost the THA less money. “We really recognise that the question of road repairs is one of the major challenges which we are going to face in the upcoming months,” he noted. London said that the equipment would be available during this month.
