Kidnapped accountant frees herself from Grande shack

Shamshoon Mohammed, the 33-year-old accountant who was kidnapped on Wednesday night at Caroni, escaped from the hands of kidnappers when she untied herself around 3.30 pm yesterday, and fled from a wooden shack at George Street, Sangre Grande. The young woman alerted a resident of the area who called the Sangre Grande Police. Officers responded promptly and took the woman back to the shack where she had been kept hostage since Wednesday night. No one was at the shack at the time but the shack was tested for fingerprints. The woman was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital where she was treated for shock.

She was interviewed by Snr Supt Reyes, Head of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad who lives in the area, and later reunited with her relatives. Relatives expressed relief that Shamshoon was back home and the family offered prayers. Sunday Newsday learned that a pharmacist from Kelly Village, Caroni who is known to Shamshoon was beaten by a group of Caroni villagers on Friday afternoon. Another man was quizzed by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad on Thursday. On Thursday, police officers raided several homes in Caroni and two poultry farms in Piarco in their search for Mohammed. Yesterday, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad together with officers of Central Division also raided several homes in Mamoral Village based on information supplied to them by members of the public. PC Maraj of the Caroni Police Station is investigating.
