Freed kidnap victim back home

Shamshoon Mohammed, the 33-year-old woman who escaped from her  kidnappers on Saturday afternoon, has been discharged from the Sangre Grande Hospital, and is back home today. In their bid to offer her continued protection the woman was heavily guarded by police officers while warded at hospital. When Newsday visited her Shair Street, Caroni home yesterday, her father Shaffick was busy cleaning the front of his home. He expressed relief that his daughter is no longer in the custody of kidnappers. Another relative said that the family was advised to desist from giving out too much information because the investigation was now at a sensitive stage.

Checks with the Sangre Grande Hospital revealed that Mohammed had to be placed on drips and was treated round the clock. She was also treated for shock. The accountant told police officers that she was kept in a shack at Sangre Grande since she was kidnapped last Wednesday. She was tied up and guarded most of the time. Mohammed said that around 3.30 pm on Saturday she managed to untie herself and escaped from the shack at George Street, Sangre Grande. She alerted a resident of George Street who informed the Sangre Grande Police. Mohammed was rushed to the Sangre Grande Hospital where she was treated and warded. Police have since questioned a pharmacist and another man in connection with the kidnapping.
