Schoolgirl at hospital after family attacked by man with a hammer

A 14-YEAR-old schoolgirl is in hospital after she was beaten on her head with a hammer by a close relative who ran amok at her Oropouche home on Saturday. Nicalee Kingston, is warded in stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH). Kingston’s mother, Margaret Jordan, was beaten about her body, while Kingston’s sister, Nicolette, 17, was hit in her face.    Police later held a suspect, a 25-year-old welder, shortly after the incident. The suspect was found hiding in bushes near Othaheite beach with a hammer and a cutlass in his possession. He is expected to appear in the Siparia Magistrates’ Court today charged with causing grievous bodily harm. The suspect reportedly shared a six-year relationship with Jordan and lived at her house at Coker Street, Oropouche.

Jordan, a mother of seven, said the incident culminated after years of domestic abuse. Shortly after the incident the police were called in, and the mother and her children were taken to San Fernando hospital for treatment. Jordan said she is going to the Siparia Magistrates’ Court today when the alleged offender will be brought before a magistrate. PC Ramjag made the arrest and laid the charge.
