Tobago nominated for ‘Best Eco’ Tourism award

Tobago has been nominated in the category of “The World’s Best Eco Destination” in a Tourism awards ceremony to be held in New York on October 15. Speaking at the post Executive Council media briefing last Thursday, THA Secretary for Tourism, Neil Wilson reported that the island was receiving extreme international popularity “for its attributes.” He said the fact that English Man’s Bay, on the North Eastern side of Tobago, had been regarded by the International Travel Channel as the sixth best beach in the Caribbean and the Coco Reef Resort and Spa named the sixth best hotel in the Americas and the Caribbean, second only to Sandy Lane of Barbados, was something of which all Tobagonians should be proud. “The mere fact that we are nominated means that we have in fact got some recognition of the value of our eco-thrust in Tobago,” he emphasised. In this light, Wilson said that the Tourism department was currently working “on the ground to improve the island’s tourism product.” He disclosed that extensive beautification work had begun in Scarborough earlier this week and six life-guard towers were to be erected on several major beaches on the island shortly.
