Chamber praises PM for ‘war on crime’

The TT Chamber of Industry and Commerce has commended the Minister of Finance, Prime Minister Patrick Manning, for his declaration of war on crime and his recognition that this issue is the most critical problem facing the nation at present. In a release, it praised his 12-point plan and other initiatives to address the situation and called for the implementation of these measures within the shortest possible time.

“We also support the required legislation for improvement of the administration of justice and the management of the Police Service,” the release stated. The Chamber noted that it was in “full agreement” with the Prime Minister’s stated focus on education and health, which, it maintained, are key to addressing the urgent needs of the population. “Emphasis on youth development, provision of housing, generating of employment, the differently-abled and the elderly are all laudable,” it said. “We listened cautiously,” the Chamber continued, “and await further details on specific support for the manufacturing sector. We hope the respective line ministers will remove some of the cloudiness on this topic.”
