No bail for man charged with hammer attack on wife, step-daughters

WELDER Dexter Jones, 25, who allegedly beat his common-law wife and her two daughters with a hammer on Saturday, was denied bail by Siparia Magistrate Lucina Cardenas-Ragoonanan, before whom he appeared yesterday charged with three counts of causing grievous bodily harm.

Jones, of Coker Street, Oropouche, was sent to Remand Yard for ten days by Magistrate Cardenas-Ragoonanan who heard the case in the Siparia First Court. Jones pleaded not guilty to the three counts of causing grievous bodily harm, laid by PC Ramjag of the Oropouche Police Station. Sgt David Cooper was the prosecuting officer during the case yesterday. The hammer which Jones allegedly used to beat his common-law wife Margaret Jordan and her daughters Nicollette, 17, and Nicallee, 14, was brought before the court yesterday. Nicallee Kingston was struck on her head and remains warded at San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH). Jordan was beaten about her body and her other daughter Nicollette was struck in her face. The case was adjourned to October 16.
