Waitress jumps to her death from moving van

SIPARIA detectives are investigating the death of a 24-year-old waitress who reportedly jumped from a moving pick-up van during an argument with her boyfriend and was later pronounced dead on arrival at the San Fernando General Hospital. An autopsy performed on the body of Kallyann Caprieta of Reyes Trace, Syne Village, Siparia yesterday revealed that she suffered head injuries consistent with a fall. Up to late yesterday police were still questioning the woman’s 34-year-old boyfriend at the Siparia Police Station. Caprieta’s boyfriend of Palmiste Boulevard, Phillipine, told police around 1.45 am, he was a short distance away from her home when they began arguing. He said Caprieta became angry and jumped out of the van. He said it was only after he took her home that he realised that she was slipping into an unconscious state and he called the police and the ambulance service.

However, he said the EHS had no ambulances available and he rushed her to the SFGH, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Caprieta’s landlord Ramraj Jaglal said Caprieta began renting 18 months ago with her boyfriend. He said yesterday morning he heard knocking on his door and her boyfriend calling out to him (Jaglal) to call the EHS. He said he did not know the number but eventually the man got the number and called the ambulance. However, he said, her boyfriend ended up taking Caprieta to the hospital himself. An autopsy performed at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, revealed that the woman died as a result of cerebral cranial injuries consistent with an accident. The Siparia CID is investigating the incident.
