Young Sumairsingh distraught over verdict

Kavita Sumairsingh daughter of murdered Chairman of the Rio Claro Regional Corporation, said she was greatly disappointed in the country’s justice system. Kavita, who spoke to Newsday from her Rio Claro home, said she felt very distraught upon hearing the news that former government minister Dhanraj Singh had been freed of the charges for her father’s murder. Kavita said, “If 12 jurors can’t find the murderer, no one can. This just means that murderers are walking the streets, and today, two more have been added. Is this the justice system that we are accepting?” She said, “My father is dead, but somebody is responsible and we may never know who it is.” Asked whether she felt cheated, the young Sumairsingh responded, “Of course, and this feeling will last for a very long time to come.”
