Boy rescued from flood
A FIREFIGHTER yesterday came to the rescue of 11-year-old Brandon Ramdan who had been feared drowned after he disappeared in flood waters in a drain at Paxvale, Santa Cruz. Little Brandon was at the time playing football after which the ball fell into the water. He went to retrieve the ball around 2.30pm but was swept away and police said he spent about 45 minutes under the drain. Describing the incident as a lucky one, police said Brandon appeared to have gotten stuck under the bridge but high above the water in a manhole, thereby allowing him to breathe. This, they said, appeared to have saved his life. When the waters subsided, police said a villager noticed something under the bridge and alerted firefighter Rique of the San Juan Fire Station. The fireman went into the drain and rescued Brandon.
