Trial set for woman accused of $145,000 larceny
A WOMAN accused of stealing over $145,000 from the Government is to go on trial in the San Fernando High Court on November 3.
Gloria Ramnarine, 50, is accused of committing larceny of the funds while she was an employee of the Postal Division of the Ministry of Public Utilities at Rio Claro. Ramnarine, a Post Officer I, allegedly stole $145,703.50 between December 2, 1996, and February 18, 1997. She was charged by Cpl Taylor of the Fraud Squad.
Yesterday the accused appeared before Justice Herbert Volney in the First Criminal Assizes with her defence attorneys Ian Stuart Brooke, Nizam Mohammed and Farraz Mohammed. Ag Asst DPP South Joan Honore-Paul appeared on behalf of the State. Both sides indicated their readiness to begin the case and Justice Volney set the trial for November 3. Justice Volney also issued bail to Ramnarine in the sum of $100,000 with instructions that she report to the Rio Claro Police Station every Wednesday, until the determination of the matter.
