2 shot in Chaguaramas

Around 12.30 am yesterday, two people were shot in the Chaguaramas district by a lone gunman who stole one victim’s vehicle and made good his escape.

According to police reports, Elvis Durant, 40, of Laventille Road, San Juan, was in his vehicle in the vicinity of Alcoa, Chaguaramas. A gunman approached him and announced a robbery, subsequently stealing Durant’s,  gold watch, chain, rings and an undisclosed sum of money. After stealing the items, the bandit demanded that Durant hand over his keys. However, police said Durant put on the kill switch then handed over the car keys.   The bandit was unable to start the vehicle and, in a rage, shot Durant in the left leg. The bandit then robbed a couple, a 60-year-old Cascade man, and a 22-year-old St James woman a short distance away. 

The 60-year-old man, who was the driver of a grey Toyota Corolla, was then shot by the bandit in his left arm. The bandit then drove off with the vehicle which had not been found up to late evening. A report was made and a party of officers headed by Sgt Stephen Joefield, and including PCS Malco, John, Sifontis, Warner, Grant and others visited the scene. Police took Durant and the elderly man to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where they were attended to and discharged. The woman was unharmed. PC John of the Carenage CID is investigating.
