Fire officers rescue man trapped in car

A 26-year-old Curepe man was rescued from the mangled wreck of a car after the driver of the vehicle crashed into the rear of a truck on the south-bound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway yesterday.

Tyrone Narine was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he was treated and warded in critical condition. The driver of the car, Deonarine Lutchman, 22, suffered cuts, bruises and a broken arm and was also treated at hospital. Reports revealed that around 12.30 pm, Lutchman was driving his car PAZ 7406 along the south-bound lane of the highway when on reaching near the Institute of Business, he crashed into the rear of a parked truck. The driver of the truck, Budindra Ramroop, told police officers that he parked the vehicle because he was unable to see the road clearly with the amount of rainfall. Narine, 26, who remained trapped in the car, was rescued by fire officers who cut away the vehicle to remove him from the car. He was rushed by EHS officers to the EWMSC. Newsday learned that Snr Supt Dawson Victor, head of the Central Division, who was on his way to his office, telephoned the fire services and EHS. He also summoned traffic officers to the scene. The car was later towed to the Chaguanas Police Station.
