Hubert Alleyne resigns as Chairman of ADB
Former Chairman of the Unit Trust Corporation Hubert Alleyne yesterday resigned his position as Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).
His resignation followed directly on the heels of his removal from the post of UTC chairman one week ago by the Manning Government.
His resignation letter was handed in to Agiculture Minister, John Rahael, at the Ministry of Agriculture offices in St Clair at 5 pm yesterday. Rahael was in Parliament at the time. In his letter to the Minister, Alleyne steered clear of the UTC controversy. He thanked the Government however, for the opportunity to serve and wished them the best in the future. Asked why he resigned his position as ADB chairman, Alleyne said he could not continue to function given what had transpired between himself and the Government at the UTC. “It was illogical to have my revocation at UTC where the Government had no major interest and stay on at ADB where the Government had total control. I felt it was the right thing to do,” he said. Junior Finance Minister, Conrad Enill, has insisted that Alleyne was fired from his position at UTC for not following Government’s policy. Alleyne is due to attend and address the ADB’s gala prize-giving and award ceremony on Saturday at the Hilton Trinidad.
