Girl shot in head discharged from hospital
Daniella Carrington, the 13-year-old girl who was accidentally shot in the head by a seven-year-old relative while seated in a van at Valsayn on September 24, was released from the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex on Saturday. Although Carrington was allowed to go home, she will still undergo treatment for the injuries sustained in the shooting. Police sources told Newsday that the gun used in the shooting was seized and the matter is still under investigation. The file into the shooting was forwarded to ACP Crime James Philbert, a few days after the shooting. The file was sent back to investigators for information to be cleared up.
Pete Carrington, owner of Innovative Security and owner of the gun used in the shooting, was interviewed by the police. He said that he and other relatives had planned to spend the day at the beach in Toco. He stopped off at Valsayn to pick up an ice cooler and placed the gun under a mat in the van. He also revealed that a seven-year-old who was seated in the van saw when he placed the gun under the mat and took possession of the weapon. He was about to take the gun to Carrington when it accidentally went off and shot Daniella in the head. She was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where she underwent emergency surgery.
