He gave us ‘A Mother’s Love’

THE EDITOR: Much of the population may have an opportunity to learn about some of the art from of calypso if TUCO’s inaugural History Month programmes work as planned. Looking at their events, I could not help but notice the programme that is planned for Carapichaima, the village that gave us McDonald Carl Glasgow, the man who gave us the immortal “A Mother’s Love.”

His calypso sobriquet was the Mighty Destroyer. For the benefit of our rising population, particularly those of Carapichaima and surrounding areas, I hope to see Destroyer’s picture and a copy of his famous ditty, “A Mother’s Love,” on a nice collector’s item-looking pamphlet, among other things. That’s not too much to do in honour of the memory of the late bard of Carapichaima when you should have honoured that calypsonians posthumously, for his contribution to the beautiful art form of calypso. Chalkdust should have some information on him, Terror and perhaps Raffique Shah. Moreover there is a lady who is an international poet who would gladly give some information on Destroyer, particularly since he was very close to her heart. Her name is Mrs Ruby Jackson, and she lives at Waterloo Road in Carapichaima. I look forward to a good show at the Carapichaima Carnival site TUCO, because jump high, jump low, the Destroyer contributed to calypso.
