Kidnapped businessman released

KIDNAP victim Kelvin Moorley, 47, was released in St James yesterday after his family reportedly paid kidnappers an undisclosed amount of cash. Police reports revealed that around 7.30 am Moorley was dropped off in St James. He alerted a passer-by who took him to the St James Police Station. His worried relatives were contacted at their Arima home and they went to the St James Station where they were reunited with Moorley. The father of two, who was traumatised, told police officers that he was beaten by kidnappers during his stay with them. Rishi Seeram, the son-in-law of the victim said that Tara Moorley, the wife of the victim had not eaten or rested since the abduction. She, however, was relieved that her husband was released.

Moorley, the manager of Ridgewood Farms and his wife had returned to their Riverway Road, Arima home around 5.30 pm on Thursday, when they were confronted by kidnappers. The four men snatched both Moorley and his wife but the mother of two managed to escape. Early Saturday, kidnappers telephoned his family and demanded a $3 million ransom for his safe return. When Newsday visited the Arima home of Moorley, a female relative claimed that he was being treated at a medical institution. He is expected to be interviewed today by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
