London: It was divine intervention

THA Chief Secretary, Orville London, has described it as divine intervention that the current administration came into power when it did to bring sanity to the THA’s Financial Assistance Programme. London disclosed recently that since taking up office, the administration had cleared over $20 million worth of scholarship debts incurred by the previous regime and was now faced with the task of obtaining funds to continue financing these awards in addition to the new awards they had given out. He gave the assurance however, that they intend to honour the contractual agreements since they were made with the THA and not the last administration.

London also stated that as a result of having to re-pay these debts, they were hindered from awarding the number of scholarship they may have wished to. “It is one of the most reckless abuses of a system that I have ever seen that an administration should have sent scores of Tobago students to distant lands and have no provision to pay for them. I don’t care what anybody has to say, it is divine intervention that we came in at this point in time to bring some sanity to the programme.” London slammed.
