Escaped prisoner held in ‘Grande’
PRISONER Nigel Ramdhanie was recaptured Sunday evening by officers of the Sangre Grande Criminal Investigations Department.
Police sources said officers of the Eastern Division station received a tip-off after which a party of officers headed by Cpl Deosaran went to the Eastern Main Road, Sangre Grande, around 4.30 pm. There, the officers allegedly found Ramdhanie waiting for a taxi. Police said the 57-year-old man was arrested and subsequently handed over to officers of the Arouca CID. Cpl Figaro later charged Ramdhanie with escaping legal custody. He was due to appear yesterday before an Arima magistrate to answer the charge. Ramdhanie, of Mulchan Trace, Guaico, Tamana, Sangre Grande, allegedly escaped from the Golden Grove Prison on September 26. At the time, the father of five was serving a two-year jail term with hard labour for larceny, prison authorities had said in a statement.
