10,000 seek treatment at new Princes Town Health Centre

THE Princes Town District Health Facility has extended its hours of service from 4 pm to 6 pm, Mondays to Thursdays, to better serve the people of Princes Town and environs.

The extended hours are said to be one of several initiatives currently being implemented. In addition, plans are on the way for the establishment of a Wellness Centre, a special Diabetes Project, a Men’s Programme, an Adolescent Clinic and the staging of a Mass Casualty Emergency Drill in Princes Town. Several other projects are being undertaken in conjunction with the Community Partnership Board. The Princes Town facility was commissioned on June 17, to address the overcrowding at the San Fernando General Hospital. To date, the facility has treated in excess of 10,000 patients at its Accident and Emergency Department, in just three months. This has since resulted in greater demands on staff and equipment at the facility.

Facility Manager, Terrance Honore was in high praise of staff members. “All members of the health care team at the facility have committed themselves to providing quality care to patients. We are indeed challenged to provide the highest standard of care to the people of Princes Town and its environs.” The new arrangement at the district centre is expected to facilitate the working parents and other members of the community who are otherwise unable to access the service during the day. An immunisation clinic will open on Monday afternoons and a Walk-In or Health Office Clinic on Thursdays, also special attention would be paid to children who can attend after school hours.
