No more gambling machines, please

THE EDITOR: Recently there was an article in the newspaper addressing the introduction of VTL machines in Trinidad.  I am distraught because we seem to becoming a nation of gamblers.  Since the Bible is the highest moral standard ever known to us as a nation and was given to us from God who created us all, there is nothing written that shows gambling to be morally and spiritually right.  With the introduction of these machines in our society, gone will be the days when one may be paid as compensation for work done to produce goods or services that benefit other people.

The Bible clearly states in Timothy 5:18 the laborer is worthy of his wages.  Gambling undermines the work ethic and leads people to seek profit by causing loss to others.  We are already plagued with Lotto, Lottery, Play Whe, Pick Two, yet this government wants to legalise more forms of gambling by introducing these machines! A tree is known by its fruit.  Gambling often breeds other forms of evil in our society’s broken homes and families, abuse and addiction.  Lord spare us the fruits from this tree.  Timothy 4:12 reads: Set a good example in word, manner of life, love, faith and purity.”  By becoming a nation of gamblers we can never hope to make good such an example.  Therefore I plead to our Prime Minister please put a stop to any more gambling.
