C&W reorganises structure
Cable & Wireless plc. has re-organised the reporting structure for its Caribbean businesses, resulting in the two largest – Barbados and Jamaica – reporting directly into the London headquarters of the parent company. In making the announcement recently, newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer Kevin Loosemore said: “Effective immediately, Barbados will be separated from the East Caribbean Area reflecting its size and importance to the group.” He explained that the new structure of the Caribbean operations was simpler and placed direct control of critical responsibilities within or much closer to the businesses.
President of Cable & Wireless Barbados, Donald Austin, noted that these changes meant that a greater level of responsibility will fall to this business unit. He said he was pleased that the Barbadian team would now be totally responsible for the local operation. He explained that Barbados’ separation from a regional area grouping did not mean that there would be no collaboration among the other business units in the region. Rather, he said, there would still be some key shared services which would remain centrally located here in the island, including the regional Contact Centre at Cedar Court which will continue to service many of the eastern Caribbean locations. The Regional Network Management Centre, the Regional Data Management Centre, the Regional Fraud and Revenue Assurance Centre and the Regional ISP Centre will also continue to be based in Barbados. Cable & Wireless’ businesses in other Caribbean islands will continue to operate in two main areas, the Northern Caribbean operations and the newly-formed Eastern Carib-bean operations.
