Motorist dies in crash with maxi

Thirty-five-year-old Stephen Williams, of La Canoa, Santa Cruz, was killed instantly after his Sunny motor car crashed head-on with a 25-seater maxi-taxi  yesterday. The accident occurred at about 7 am yesterday in the vicinity of Sinnanan Park, Santa Cruz. The driver of the maxi-taxi, Ethelwood Lawrence, said he was heading south along Saddle Road on his way to pick up schoolchildren, when he saw the blue Sunny overtaking a line of cars. Lawrence said when he noticed the car heading right at his maxi, he pulled to avoid hitting it. Lawrence’s efforts were not enough as the driver’s side of William’s car hit the maxi-taxi. Part of the maxi-taxi ended up in a ditch, while William’s car was totally destroyed. Scores of motorists stopped to assist Williams and noticed that there were two other occupants of his vehicle. They managed to get them  out and rushed them to hospital. However, Williams, who was slumped over the front passenger seat, was already dead when onlookers attempted to take him from the vehicle. Officers of the Santa Cruz Police Station  are investigating the accident.
