Guard robbed of gun, woman shot in the back

A security guard employed with MTS Security was robbed of his 9 mm service pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition while at a hardware in El Socorro yesterday. Reports revealed that around 9.23 am, Sgt Ramsaroop, a security guard of  MTS went to SMR Hardware on El Socorro Road to conduct business. He later heard a voice saying, “Don’t move daddy.” Ramsaroop later felt a gun to his cheek and another on his stomach. He was robbed of a silver pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition and a magazine. Ramsaroop told police officers that he looked around and saw three men running away. A report was made to the Barataria Police and a party of officers led by Snr Supt Bishop and others went to the scene and carried out enquiries. An unsuccessful search was carried out for the men.

Meanwhile at around 8.30 am, Nelisa Jones, 32, of Construction Avenue, Longdenville, was at home when she was confronted by a man she knew. Reports revealed that Jones and the man had a heated argument and she was later shot on the left side of her back. The gunman fled the scene and went into hiding. Jones was rushed to the Chaguanas Health Facility and transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. Sgt Dennis Housend, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and PC Terrence Williams visited the scene and carried out a search for the suspect.
