Dear PNM, corruption is corruption
THE EDITOR: So TT has slipped in the Corruption Index. I wonder why. We should have risen in the ratings since, according to the government, the UNC was the source of all corruption, and they are no longer in office.
I suggest that one of the reasons for our decline is that the PNM doesn’t quite understand the meaning of ‘corruption’. More to the point, they think it doesn’t apply to them. If the UNC, or anyone else, commits it, it’s corruption. But if the PNM commits it, it is just perceived as ‘business’. I think it’s a genuine misperception on their part, that they really think it’s OK for party members and friends to profit from their political connections or position. Well here’s a newsflash: no matter who perpetrates it, including the PNM, corruption is corruption. Political corruption has only one affiliation — to those in power. And who is in charge nowadays?
