Fire blazes Barataria

Several people are homeless after fire destroyed an apartment building on Seventh Street Barataria. Two apartments, a house at the back of the building and a car were destroyed in the blaze.

According to reports, a visitor to one of the apartments detected smoke shortly before noon yesterday and then saw flames coming from an apartment where tenants were not at home. The fire quickly spread to the property at the back, where the landlord and his relatives live.
Tenants who were not at home at the time of the incident, rushed to their destroyed homes upon learning of the incident. They said they’ve lived there for years, and lost all their belongings in the blaze. They are appealing to the public for assistance. Fire officers attached to the San Juan Fire Station who responded to the call, have not yet determined the cause of the blaze.
