Port employee charged with rape of teen sisters

A 53-year-old Port Authority employee yesterday surrendered to officers of the Chaguanas police and was charged with four counts of rape. On Monday, a 15-year-old Caroni teenager reported to WPC Jacqueline Gustav at the Chaguanas CID that between October last year and last week, she and her 14-year-old sister were being sexually assaulted by a neighbour. The two victims were medically examined by a doctor who confirmed that the girls were sexually active. A warrant was issued for the suspect but he could not be found. Around 2 pm yesterday, the man surrendered to Sgt Dennis Housend and Ag Sgt Ajith Persad. The 36-year-old mother of the two victims was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to report the rapes. The woman and the 53-year-old man will appear before a Chaguanas magistrate today. Newsday learnt that the two victims were placed in a safe house by police officers.
