Chaguanas taxi drivers raise fares
THE Chaguanas Taxi Association (CTA) has joined the fast growing list of taxi associations in the country to increase fares on the heels of increased fuel prices announced by Prime Minister Patrick Manning during his national Budget presentation. According to CTA president Kamraj Ramnath, the fare increase of 50 cents will take effect on Monday November 3. Ramnath told Newsday he was fully aware of the country’s economic state which is why the association raised the fare to cover increased fuel costs only. “From Chaguanas to St. Mary’s, Couva, California, including all short drops, fares will be increased by 50 cents, bringing the total cost to $2.50,” Ramnath said. He added that the new cost for off-route drops would also be in the sum of $2.50. Ramnath said the fare from the Chaguanas highway to Point Lisas will also be raised by one dollar, up from $5 to $6.
