Chin Lee, Snaggs surprise roadblock

NATIONAL Security Minister Howard Chin Lee and acting Commissioner of Police Everald Snaggs paid a surprise visit to police officers of South Western Division, who were conducting a roadblock exercise along High Street, Siparia, yesterday. Chin Lee and Snaggs,  accompanied by ACP Oswyn Allard, viewed the conduct of the officers during the roadblock which began at 1 pm and ended three hours later. The exercise was spearheaded by head of South-Western Division, Snr Supt Paulimos Alfonso,  and saw officers from the Siparia, Penal, Santa Flora, Erin and Fyzabad Police Stations being placed at strategic points along High Street, where they stopped and searched cars and their occupants.

The lawmen operated from Siparia Road Junction, Coora Road Junction and SS Erin Main Road, High Street, Siparia. According to Inspector Chowbay, the main objective of the roadblock was to help in the crackdown of errant motorists and to be on the lookout for illegal drugs and arms and ammunition. According to police reports, the exercise resulted in four persons being arrested — three for possession of marijuana and one for narcotics trafficking. In addition, 33 traffic tickets were issued to motorists for breach of the road traffic laws.
