Man found beaten and chopped

Police in Tobago were up to Tuesday seeking a suspect in the beating and chopping of a man who was discovered bound and gagged and in a semi-conscious state in a forested area off Providence Road, near Golden Lane, on Sunday afternoon. The beaten man who is reported to be an out-patient of the St Ann’s Hospital, was found in an area locally known as “Gru Gru Patch” around 3 pm. His body bore chop wounds and other signs of violence. The man  in his early twenties, was said to be a suspect in several break-ins and petty thefts in the neighbourhood, and it is believed that this may have led to him being beaten and chopped. It has also been reported that he was responsible for setting a fire which destroyed another man’s house about a year ago, and it is believed that his beating may be an act of reprisal. The suspect in the matter is said to be known to the police.
