Loud support as Khan takes his seat
Franklyn Khan was congratulated on his elevation in the seating order in the House of Representatives by both his colleagues and members of the Opposition.
Speaking in the House of Representatives yesterday, Legal Affairs Minister Camille Robinson-Regis said she couldn’t conclude her contribution without congratulating the new Chairman. “It is a clear indication that in Parliament where party politics is an integral part, PNM recognises the importance of the Chairman. Unlike those on the other side who recognised only those who cross the floor, the PNM recognises its Chairman by putting him in the front bench,” she said, to loud supportive desk thumping from the Government MPs. Siparia MP Kamla Persad-Bissessar, while congratulating Khan, noted that the distance between one side of the front bench — the side on which Prime Minister Patrick Manning, Ken Valley and Franklyn Khan sit — and the other side where Keith Rowley, Colm Imbert and others sit, had widened considerably.
