Mechanic commits suicide in car

A 30-YEAR-OLD Gran Couva mechanic was found dead by his wife in the backseat of his car on Thursday night, in what police investigators strongly believe was a case of suicide.

According to police reports, around 9.15 pm, Ramesh Mahabir, of Powderia Road, Preysal, was found slumped in the back seat of his red Ford Laser car, by his common-law wife, Salisha Ali. Ali told police she returned home from a family function in California, when she noticed a hose taped to the muffler of the car, whose engine was still on. When she checked inside the car, she saw her husband’s body slumped on the seat. A report was made to police and a team of officers arrived on the scene along with DMO Dr Birjah, who ordered the removal of the body. An autopsy carried out yesterday revealed Mahabir died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
