Cops seize 45 kilos of ‘ganja’ in raid

POLICE have launched a manhunt for three men who managed to escape capture when police raided a Penal house and found three crocus bags containing compressed marijuana, with an estimated street value of $180,000 on Tuesday night. Sources said the suspects were known to the police and arrest warrants would be issued for them. The raid came during an exercise co-ordinated by Southern Division Head Snr Supt Desmond Lambert which was carried out in Princes Town, Moruga, Barrackpore and Ste Madeleine, between 10 pm on Tuesday and 4 am yesterday. In the raid, a 24-year-old man was arrested on a warrant for possession of cocaine while eight others were held on outstanding warrants for various criminal offences. A party of officers led by Insps Khan and Brereton, including Sgt Thongs and others, went to a house at Penal Rock Road to execute a search warrant for arms and ammunition. When the three occupants saw the police approaching, they ran out of the house and escaped into some nearby bushes. Investigators searched the house and discovered the three crocus bags which contained 45 kilos of compressed marijuana. Investigations are continuing.
