Five accused kidnappers get bail
THE five men charged with the October 1 kidnapping of a 33-year-old Caroni woman were yesterday granted bail when they re-appeared before Magistrate Ejenny Espinet at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ First Court. Gerald St Louis of Railway Road, Caroni, and Moonilal Seecharan of Kelly Village, Caroni were each granted bail in the sum of $160,000 with surety to cover all charges, while Alistair Phillip of Rohan Road, Arouca and Jason Gobin and Navin Ali, also of Kelly Village, were each granted bail in the sum of $150,000 with surety to cover all charges.
The five were charged with kidnapping Shamshoon Mohammed from the Caroni Community Centre, where she was participating in a keep-fit class, and falsely imprisoning her in an old shack at George Street, Sangre Grande, between October 1 and 4. St Louis was also charged with possession of a firearm. The defendants were represented by former assistant DPP Devan Rampersad, Ravi Rajcoomar, Beresford Charles, Felix Durity, and Joseph Melville. The five men will appear at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court tomorrow and at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
