Give Giuliani a chance, TT

THE EDITOR: I am astonished to read that many people in TT are strongly opposed to Rudy’s visit. When I search my conscience for a reasonable explanation, there was absolutely none available. This is solely because I have concluded that TT is under siege by the criminal elements of the country. The current PNM and the Police Commissioner in conjunction with the Minister of Security have yet to present a practicable solution. No possible solution but yet every opponent cries foul about Rudy’s visit. It appears that those Trinis who are living in TT have gained a pleasurable appetite for crimes and abductions. What have we to lose by Rudy’s visit? He is simply on a visit to give advice to the administration that is a lame duck at present. He has no intentions to take a job in TT nor has he plans to permanently reside in Port-of-Spain.

Please take notice that no one has objected to his visit from New York. This is all hogwash because the organised criminal factions have a profound reason to make this claim. If Rudy’s plans go into action the criminal deportees would obviously have a more difficult time to carry out their only means of survival. I haven’t seen any demonstrations on the streets of Brooklyn or Queens.  I haven’t read about any person advocating negatively about Rudy’s visit. But yet I hear statements in opposition to the Ex-Mayor’s visit. Let’s be more candid about the whole affair. Someone or some entity strongly dislike taking foreign advice because it sounds like the integrity of the Minister of Security and the Police Commission becomes whittled. The ego factor becomes affected and this obviously looks unreasonable in the eyes of the public at large. For your information, Rudy was never a police commissioner but he was a respected mayor of New York City during the 1980s. The police commissioner was William Bratton, a strong and committed man who undertook crimes on the streets and crimes within his police department. Rudy was a US prosecutor or a DPP, he wasn’t prosecuting for the state but for the Federal Government. This was his former job before he became mayor of NY. He was responsible for breaking down the Mafia and its capos including the incarceration of big John Gotti. He was the enforcer who tackled the most dangerous groups of organised crime in NY. His experience and advice are imperative to any country suffering with progressive crimes and murders. TT obviously needs the enforcer. If his advice fails to enhance or curtail the criminal activity, crime pays and will continue to pay lucrative sums in TT.
