WEEKEND WAIT FOR NBN STAFF

Workers at State-owned NBN would have to wait until Monday to know their fate, although Cabinet decided yesterday what should be done with the loss-making enterprise.

Public Ad-ministration Minister Dr Lenny Saith said Government would meet with the Board “possibly on Monday” to advise it of Government’s position. The Board would then meet with the employees. Saith said it would be improper to disclose what Cabinet’s decision on NBN was before this was done. Government sources however stated that a decision had been taken to divest the company. Saith also announced that Government concluded negotiations with the Public Services Association (PSA) for the terms and conditions for public servants for 2002-2004. He said this was the first time in a long time that negotiations were concluded within the life of the agreement. Saith said that negotiations between the CPO and NUGFW (for daily-paid workers) for 2002 and 2004 were also completed.
