Save the children

THE EDITOR: Could someone tell me when slavery was abolished? Aha no one can! Because right now in this 21st century slavery is still “in.” Imagine Friday October 17, 2003 I read in the Newsday that “seventy-four child workers was rescued from Nigeria’s granite pits.” The children’s ages range from 4 to 15. It was a pitiful sight.

Thirteen out of 87 children died leaving 74 children who were rescued by the police. Can you imagine a seven-year-old boy being compelled to crush a lorry load of gravel? They were also poorly fed. The labour traffickers who did this are so heartless, having these poor little boys breaking stones with mallets, sleeping outside. Just imagine that they beat the children and at the end of all of that they only earned a few  cents a day. If I were the police or some minister of Security I would deal with the stupid illiterate labour traffickers. The children missed their family. I am not being racial but when you look at it, is mostly the African tribe suffering. I will really love to reduce the child labour in Africa when I become an adult.
