Triplets for Chaguanas couple
“Oh my God,” was the first expression of Jessica Seebrat when an ultrasound last August confirmed that she was not having twins as she thought, but triplets.
Twenty-seven-year-old Seebrat, a housewife of Pierre Road, Chaguanas, gave birth via caesarian section to three girls. The first, Tiara, weighed 1.53 kg; Sanjana, 1.8 kg and Khazana, 1.7 kg last Friday at Port-of-Spain General Hospital. They were born minutes apart at 3.27 pm, 3.29 pm and 3.30 pm. Seebrat also has a five-year old daughter, Jerusha. Speaking to Newsday yesterday at PoSGH Seebrat said she began experiencing labour pains at 8 am but was not quite sure since she did not feel pain or movement from the babies as she experienced with her first child. A doctor checked on her at 10 am and determined that she was in labour.
Seebrat said it was “hard” delivering three babies and could not say exactly how she felt afterwards. “The time was lost to me in pain afterwards,” Seebrat said. She was also sedated. Asked how she would cope with taking care of three babies, she smiled and said her in-laws would help. Her husband, Jonathan, who works with Print-a-Pak Ltd, Wrightson Road, said when he heard the news about twins he was not overly excited because he is not an openly emotional person. His pride was evident though, when he said the three girls were born two weeks before his birthday — on November 21 — and almost two weeks after their big sister celebrated her birthday on October 25. “It is a blessing, I ask for one and get three, some people want one and can’t get,” he said.
While admitting that every father would like to have a son to carry on his name, Jonathan said he is just happy the babies are healthy. He said the names chosen for the babies have different origins: Tiara is Hebrew, Sanjana, Hindu and Khazana, Arabic. While taking care of three babies will not be cheap, the second-time dad was not bothered. “Only God knows,” he said. Seebrat thanked the doctors and nurses of PoSGH for the good treatment his wife received. Misons Industries Ltd’s marketing representative Thairys Lopez yesterday presented the Seebrats with a hamper of baby supplies and three bags containing new born pampers. The family will also get a three-month supply.
