CPO agrees to lump sum for daily-paid

GOVERNMENT’S Chief Personnel Officer, Sandra Marchack has given details of the Collective Agreement signed on Wednesday with the National Union of Government and Federated Workers (NUGFW), on behalf of more than 20,000 Government daily-paid workers.

She said the agreement provides for a lump sum payment in lieu of wage increases over the period January 1, 2002 to October 1 2003. It also provides for the phasing in of a new wage structure developed with effect from November 1, 2003 and from November 1, 2004 respectively. In addittion to providing for the formal implementation of the results of the reclassification and regrading exercise, the agreement provides as well for the establishment of a training fund to be administered jointly by the Government and the union, with an input at this time by the Government of $1 million. “This, I believe, recognises the Government’s commitment to the training and development of its employees at all levels.” Marchack praised the NUGFW’s “very responsible and progressive approach to the overall growth and well-being of its membership. She specifically mentioned Dave Smith, Alva Allen, and Jane Simon. She also complimented her staff at the Compensation and Benefits Management Division of the  Personnel Department.
