Illegal immigration on the rise in TT

THE EDITOR: Kindly allow me a space in your wonderful newspaper to address the issue of illegal immigrants.

I am a long time resident of San Juan. Over the years I have seen an increase in the number of illegal immigrants in the surrounding areas in which I live, especially those of Guyanese origin, from Boundary Road, San Juan to El Socorro and even to Barataria. I have made several reports to the Barataria police station but to no avail, as they told me that is for the  Immigration Department. I am appealing to the proper authorities to take the necessary steps in the law to deal with this matter.

These people of Guyanese origin are very rude, some of them even steal items from their workplace. I even know of a woman who paid a Trinidadian citizen money to get married to get her residence as a Trinidadian in Charlieville. I am a taxpaying citizen and it seems to me these people’s children are given free education while they hide away illegally in this country. I am appealing to the proper authorities to clamp down on these activities before our beloved country is overcome by these pests.
