They put their city before themselves

THE EDITOR: Claudius Dacon’s speech at the Clico function on Saturday morning cemented the fact that the crime situation in this country affected all of us. His speech was both moving and pointed. Two kidnappings later in Trinidad, nothing has changed. Although I applaud the speakers and compliment them on their delivery, the content was not anything that most of us in the room did not know. The concept of vision, process and accountability although it may be described differently, is the concept you learn at any sales course, any seminar on management, and any book on business. This concept is known by all of us both in the private sector as well as the public sector. It is not “rocket science.” These two men made a visible change to the crime situation in New York within 12 to 18 months.

What really dawned on me at the seminar, is the fact that the two invited speakers, Rudolph Giuliani and Bernard Kerik had two things in common. Simply said: They were bright, good men with a common goal to put their city before themselves. Not driven by greed, not driven by self-worth, not driven by party. They wanted New York to be a safe city where their children and grandchildren could walk to the park, travel the bus and eat at the sidewalk cafes. Do we have any good men like this left in our country? History will dictate!
