Young cycle stars double up in Sando

FIVE cycling aspirants, Taija Frontin, Azziza Browne, Trevor Commissiong, Haseem McLean and Tysha Hamilton all scored doubles at the cycling extravaganza at Skinner Park, San Fernando.

The ride, held to mark San Fernando City Week, was co-sponsored by Federal Cycle Shop, Southern Wholesale and Classic Caterers. Browne pedalled to victory in the BMX 7-9 year-old girls ride, out-sprinting Anzinga Commissiong with Jody Goodridge filling third. Brother Kiwesi Browne won the boys category ahead of Jason Francis. In another event in the same age-group, Azziza whipped Commissiong into second once more with Goodridge finishing third. And Kweisi again romped home ahead of Francis in the boys ride. Frontin won the girls ten-plus BMX category, then returned to take the second event for the same age-group. Trevor Commissiong won both segments for boys, with Rudy Ashton following him home in both.

Kevin Fonrose was third in the first event and Kriston Yearwood in the second. Hamilton won the Open three-lap BMX race ahead of Romel Sampson and Rygel Ellis, then sped home in front Haseem McLean and Marc Codrington in the 500 metres sprit. But McLean returned to capture the Flying 200 sprint, beating Codrington into second place with Kester Duncan third, then later out-rode Jonathan Rawlins in the ten-lap Open. Codring-ton filled third plce. Romel Sampson won the two-lap open from Hamilton and Ellis, while Fonrose took the BMX Open ahead of brother Kyle Fonrose and Kasim C Walcott. But the events which thrilled fans were the BMX race for four to six-years old which were won in style by Krisstoff Frontin and Sei Daniel. First Frontin held off Daniel with Rymuel Medina finishing third. Later, Daniel turned things around on Frontin to the victory podium with Kasim C Walcott third.
