Bandit shot dead
A bandit was yesterday shot dead by police while his accomplice escaped on foot.
According to police reports, members of both the Port-of-Spain and Couva CID, along with members of the Anti-Kidnaping Squad, were responding to a tip-off and were following a silver Mitsubishi Gallant car from Central Trinidad. The car, in which there were two occupants, bore a false number plate, and was travelling north along Freeman Road, St Augustine, when the officers attempted to intercept the vehicle. Upon realising they were being followed by police, the two occupants of the car opened fire on the officers, who returned fire. The driver of the car was shot, while his accomplice fled the scene on foot. When officers searched the vehicle, a .38 pistol and six rounds of ammo were found in the vehicle.
The injured bandit was taken to the Mt Hope Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He was subsequently identified as Stephen Subero, 27, aka Jason Quamina, 26, of Railway Road, Cunupia. Subero was wanted on two kidnapping charges, and had several pending matters, in court. A driver’s licence found on the dead man was found to be false. It bore the name Jason Quamina of Railway Road, Cunupia. However, when police officers ran a trace on the dead man, he was later identified as 27-year-old Stephen Subero who had outstanding warrants for robbery with violence.
